For decades, the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum has been a source of inspiration, creativity, and education. Now, a bold new initiative is underway to expand this legacy with the creation of a Satellite Museum & Arts-based Learning Studio in Detroit. This cultural hub will celebrate Marshall Fredericks’s enduring connection to the city, bringing his artistic vision into dynamic conversation with Detroit’s vibrant creative spirit. It will be a place where art and education come together to inspire, empower, and transform lives.

Located within the East Village Neighborhood in Detroit, Little Village is a burgeoning cultural corridor fostering an inclusive community that is centered around the arts.
Nestled within Stanton Yards, The Studio comes alive with the sounds of children’s laughter during family workshops and the creative energy of local artists collaborating on community-driven projects. Original Marshall Fredericks sculptures are showcased in a shared courtyard, enriching Detroit’s public art landscape and creating a Marshall Fredericks corridor along Jefferson Avenue.
Inside, visitors can explore the larger-than-life molds that were used to create Detroit’s iconic Spirit of Detroit, experiencing the artistry and craftsmanship behind this monumental symbol. An Artist-in-Residence program brings bold, new ideas to life, fostering innovation and artistic expression within this dynamic space.
This is more than a museum; it’s a place where art is made, shared, and celebrated—a space that preserves the past while inspiring the future.
Detroit is a city driven by creativity and transformation. The Studio will meet the city’s growing need for spaces that nurture creativity, offering residents direct opportunities to engage with art and artists. It will connect communities by bringing people together across generations and cultures and inspire learning by providing students and educators with unique, hands-on educational experiences.
When it opens, The Studio will welcome everyone—free and open to the public—in the heart of the Stanton Yards development. will bring the space to life with vibrant cultural programming, including exhibitions, public activations, and live performances.
